Overview of Key Schedules for the New Week
FOMC minutes are due for release, and several Federal Reserve officials will speak publicly.
The latest Federal Reserve meeting minutes will be released at 2:00 a.m. Thursday. This was the first meeting under new Fed Chair Waller, during which the policy rate was held steady in the 3.5%–3.75% range. The Fed’s statement and interest rate projections suggested that rates could be raised to counter rising inflation. Waller emphasized the importance of tackling inflation, leading markets to price in a higher risk of rate hikes.
However, in recent comments, Waller indicated that in his first few weeks on the job, the risk of higher inflation had receded as tensions in the Middle East eased. Additionally, U.S. June employment data came in significantly below expectations, with only 57,000 jobs added that month, despite a slight decline in the unemployment rate. Against this backdrop, investors will seek further clues to assess whether the Fed might raise rates in the coming months, particularly given other recent data showing solid U.S. economic performance.
In addition, several Federal Reserve officials will deliver speeches.
At 23:00 on Monday, Fed Governor Waller, ECB Executive Board member Schnabel, ECB Governing Council member Wunsch, and Deputy Governor of Sweden’s Riksbank Sjöholm will speak.
At 21:00 on Thursday, John Williams, permanent FOMC voter and President of the New York Fed, will speak.
At 01:30 on Friday, Lorie Logan, 2026 FOMC voter and President of the Dallas Fed, will speak.
