FOMC meeting held this week; minutes to be released on August 20
The Federal Reserve will hold its FOMC meeting this week. Investors widely expect the Fed to remain on hold at this meeting and to raise rates at its September meeting. According to CME Group’s 'FedWatch Tool,' the probability of the Fed holding rates steady in July is 63.7%, while the probability of a cumulative 25-basis-point hike is 36.3%. By September, the probability of unchanged rates drops to 19.6%, with a 55.2% chance of a cumulative 25-basis-point increase and a 25.2% chance of a cumulative 50-basis-point increase. The Fed will release the minutes of this FOMC meeting at 2:00 a.m. Beijing time on August 20.
