Palantir's U.S. commercial sales surged 149% year-over-year to $764 million in Q2, significantly exceeding the expected $716.4 million—a figure the CEO described as "staggering." Total Q2 revenue rose 93% year-over-year to $1.94 billion, above the anticipated $1.8 billion. The company raised its full-year revenue guidance to $8.150–$8.158 billion, surpassing the prior expectation of $7.7 billion. The CEO centered the narrative on "AI sovereignty" and forcefully rejected arguments that large language models could replace Palantir’s offerings, driving a 13% surge in after-hours share price.

$Palantir (PLTR.US)$ Following the release of its second-quarter results, the company significantly raised its full-year revenue and profit guidance, citing stronger-than-expected commercial client demand. CEO Alex Karp described the quarter’s performance as “extraordinary.”

Palantir raised its full-year revenue guidance to $8.150–$8.158 billion, a substantial increase from its previous upper end of $7.662 billion and well above analysts’ prior average expectation of approximately $7.7 billion.

Adjusted earnings per share for the second quarter came in at $0.41, exceeding the market’s expectation of $0.35. Revenue surged 93% year-over-year to $1.94 billion, significantly surpassing the anticipated $1.8 billion. U.S. commercial revenue reached $764 million, up 149% year-over-year, while U.S. government revenue totaled $809 million, a 90% year-over-year increase.

These strong results effectively addressed two key market concerns regarding Palantir’s growth outlook: first, whether AI developers like Anthropic building their own software would erode Palantir’s market share; and second, whether governments outside the United States would accelerate their shift toward domestic technology providers.

Co-founder and CEO Alex Karp stated, “This quarter was ‘extraordinary,’ and attributed the company’s growth to strong customer demand for ‘AI sovereignty.’”

Following the earnings release, Palantir surged as much as 14% in after-hours trading and extended its gains during U.S. overnight trading, currently up 14.68%.

Significantly raised third-quarter and full-year outlook

The company expects third-quarter revenue to range between $2.160 billion and $2.164 billion, with adjusted operating profit projected at $1.292–$1.296 billion.

For the full year, the company has raised its revenue guidance to $8.15–$8.158 billion and increased its U.S. commercial revenue forecast to over $3.424 billion, representing an expected year-over-year growth of 134%.

Additionally, the company raised its full-year adjusted operating profit guidance to $4.889–$4.897 billion and lifted its adjusted free cash flow guidance to $4.5–$4.7 billion.

The company also confirmed that it expects to report GAAP operating income and net income in each quarter of 2025.

U.S. commercial sales hit a record high, emerging as the standout highlight.

The most striking figures this quarter came from Palantir’s U.S. commercial segment. U.S. commercial revenue surged 149% year-over-year to $764 million, significantly exceeding the analyst consensus expectation of $716.4 million. Karp described this figure as "stunning."

The company promptly raised its full-year U.S. commercial revenue forecast to over $3.424 billion, an increase of approximately $200 million from its previous guidance of $3.224 billion. It also provided third-quarter revenue guidance of $2.160 billion to $2.164 billion, above the analyst consensus expectation of $2 billion.

"Our business is compounding at an unprecedented rate and scale," Karp stated in his letter to shareholders.

U.S. government demand remains robust, while international operations face headwinds.

In contrast to the explosive growth in the commercial segment, Palantir’s U.S. government business also maintained strong momentum. U.S. revenue in the second quarter rose 115% year-over-year to $1.57 billion, while international revenue increased 33% year-over-year to $362.5 million—a notably slower pace than domestic growth.

The relative weakness in international operations stems partly from geopolitical pressures. French and British officials have recently moved to terminate cooperation agreements with Palantir, citing the need to safeguard national technological sovereignty and instead support domestic tech firms in supplying software for national security and critical infrastructure sectors.

Meanwhile, Palantir continues to deepen its defense footprint in the U.S. market. According to multiple media outlets including Reuters, Palantir is collaborating with Anduril to develop software for the Trump administration’s 'Golden Dome' missile defense program.

Karp rejects AI substitution narratives, emphasizing the value of data sovereignty.

Addressing market concerns that large language model providers are encroaching on their business territory, Karp, in his letter to shareholders, used the metaphor of 'allowing models to roam freely through customers’ homes' to illustrate the associated risks, clearly stating that customers are unwilling to surrender their core business data and decision-making intelligence.

"What is at stake is control over data, the prompts fed into the models, and—more fundamentally—the organizational and business intelligence itself: the customer’s alpha," wrote Karp. "Language labs are not only eager but structurally designed to extract this value from customers. Our clients refuse to become vassals of language labs."

Founded in 2003, Palantir’s core products include the AIP platform for AI application deployment, the Gotham system serving defense and intelligence sectors, and the Apollo platform for software deployment management.

In recent years, Karp and the company’s executive team have consistently reinforced their pro-U.S. defense posture, publishing books and speaking publicly to urge the technology industry to reintegrate into the defense industrial base.
