3. This adjustment indicates a delay in Anthropic's listing plans.
According to Reuters, citing sources familiar with the matter on Friday, Anthropic, a leading U.S. artificial intelligence company and developer of the Claude chatbot, is expected to begin marketing its initial public offering (IPO) as early as mid-October and complete its listing a few days before the U.S. midterm elections in November.
Sources familiar with the matter indicated that Anthropic had originally expected to release its IPO prospectus as early as next week—a key step in launching the final stage of the listing process—but now anticipates publishing the prospectus in late September.
However, sources also cautioned that plans, including the timeline, remain subject to change.
This adjustment signifies a postponement of Anthropic's listing plans.
It is not uncommon for companies to adjust their listing timelines during the IPO process in response to market conditions, regulatory reviews, and other preparatory requirements.
Sources noted that while companies typically allow several weeks between analyst meetings and the public release of the IPO prospectus, the window for Anthropic is expected to be shorter given analysts' existing familiarity with the company.
Sources further stated that, as part of the IPO process, Anthropic is seeking to finalize a $15 billion revolving credit facility. Upon completion, analysts, including those from banks participating in the financing, are expected to meet with the company.
The largest IPO in history
According to previous reports, Anthropic plans to raise over $100 billion through an IPO, targeting a valuation of $2 trillion. If successful, this offering would surpass the record set by SpaceX in June—$85.7 billion raised and a valuation of approximately $1.77 trillion—to become the largest initial public offering in global history.
At the same time, as one of the most anticipated IPOs in history, it will serve as a major test of the public market's willingness to embrace the rapidly growing artificial intelligence industry.
Meanwhile, other AI companies, including OpenAI, may also go public. Elon Musk’s SpaceX went public this June, setting a valuation record of $1.77 trillion.
According to sources familiar with the matter, banks such as Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan, and Citi are collaborating with Anthropic to advance this IPO.
Ahead of Anthropic’s historic initial public offering (IPO), a series of recently released data points indicate that the company’s financial performance is experiencing explosive growth.
Citing insiders last month, media reports indicated that Anthropic internally projects its 2028 revenue to reach approximately $190 billion to $200 billion.
The company also disclosed to investors that its annualized revenue exceeded USD 65 billion as of the end of July, representing an increase of approximately 38% from USD 47 billion in May of this year.
Furthermore, documents reviewed by industry insiders in recent days reveal that Anthropic disclosed to potential investors that its second-quarter operating revenue exceeded USD 11.5 billion, marking a roughly fourteen-fold increase compared to the same period last year.
